The Wheat Plant Height Measuring Instrument is a portable, fast-response crop height measurement tool designed specifically for the agricultural sector. Using in-built optical ranging technology and in-field analysis through built-in algorithms, it is capable of acquiring height data in real time.
Different criteria are used to measure plant height at different times in wheat. Wheat plant height is generally defined as the distance between the base of the plant and the top of the main stem, i.e. the main stem growth point.
Seedling stage:
(1) Pseudostem height: The distance from the base of the plant (or at the meristem) to the top of the leaf sheath of the uppermost unfolded leaf (i.e. at the auricle) is the pseudostem height (or length);
(2) Plant length: the distance from the base of the plant to the tip of the uppermost unfolded leaf is the plant length.
2. Seedling stage:

3. At the stage of nodulation:
(1) Pseudostem height: the distance from the base of the plant (or at the cornucopia) to the top of the leaf sheath of the uppermost unfolded leaf (i.e., at the auricle) is taken as pseudostem height (or length);
(2) True stem height: the total length of each internode is the true stem height (or length);
(3) Plant length: the distance from the base of the plant to the tip of the uppermost spreading leaf is the plant length.
4. Grouting stage: the distance from the base of the plant (or tiller node) to the top of the spike (excluding the awn) is the plant height.
